This one didn't work out the way I had planned but I think the outcome was pretty cool. The original way to do it was to mix oil and water and put it over something so that the color came through. however this wasn't working because it was hard to differentiate the where the oil was over the color. So I decided to put dye in the oil and water and that created a cool kind of bubble look. I used Black and Pink.
Herb Ritts was born on August 13th, 1952 and died of pneumonia on December 2nd, 2002 both in Los Angeles, California. He taught himself photography shortly after he graduated from Bard College in New York with a major in economics. He became famous when he took pictures of his friends boyfriend Richard Gere who later became a famous actor. I was drawn to him because I saw photographs of celebrities like Michael Jackson and Madonna and so I wanted to learn more about how he got that far.
This project was fun because we got to go around the school and use our imaginations to take pictures of things that look like letters. It was kinda like a scavenger hunt but you didn't know what you were gonna find. The name one was hard because we were not allowed to use real letters. For the alphabet half were allowed to be real letters but it still looks cool because all the letters are different shapes, sizes and colors.
First we turned our regular selfies into gradients using photoshop and then we traced over those using a projector. After labeling the gradient colors we painted them one at a time. My gradient color scheme ranges from light green to dark blue.
Creating an illusion of depth and space helped me to learn how to focus photos in certain ways to get a deep or shallow depth of field. My photos for this project was of a line of cars. I learned that a shallow depth of field would put the focus on the cars at the beginning of the line, while a deep depth would show all the cars down the line clearly. I used this skill while photographing my paper lantern. When photographing them we used light to get the shadows through the lanterns. Learning how much light to use in a photo is another skill I have acquired that i think is important. Once the lighting was set up correctly I took various pictures of the lantern using different depths of field to get different kinds of pictures. One project I would re-visit would be the mirror selfies. I liked my window one because it was creative but i would revisit the one done with my ipad camera and try to do something more creative. There were not many mirror options for me to use when I too that photo so if I were to re-visit it I would try to find more interesting options. The only other things i would like to explore would be photographing more things in raw nature and setting up shots outdoors. I think we will do more of this when the weather gets better.
Project One, Something Sliced:
You have one class period to create something sliced! What you choose and how you slice it is up to you, however, your best bet is to consider matching shapes, colors, textures and contours carefully. For my slice I put hearts in a cupcake that had heart sprinkles. Project Two:Turn a Pop Icon into a Sculpture! Pop icons range from toys like Barbie to singers like Ke$ha. McDonald’s French fries might even be considered a pop icon. Sculptures range from ancient ruins like Easter Island to modern day artists like Calder or Segal. Both the pop icon and the sculpture should be easily recognized by your audience. I used my favorite actor Dylan O'brien and put his head on a lion statue. Project 3 - Literal Interpretations Pick a compound word and create an image that depict literal interpretation. What would a fly look like if it were on fire? Firefly. What would the moon look like if it were made of honey? Honeymoon. I out a boys head on a cows body to make a cowboy. Project 4 - Bad Mail! There’s a bumpy package on the doorstep with a lion’s tail hanging out the back. There’s something very wrong with that envelope. We just got a letter, the worst letter you can possibly imagine. Show us the bad mail! Theres a dinosaur tale in the mailbox. Project 5 - Some Scrambled Bodies Looking All Crazy! This body part might not go here and that part might not go there. Mix up some body parts. I put bird arms on a human lady. Project 6 - A Holiday Mashup!! Take any holiday between Thanksgiving and New Years and mash it up with a famous work of art. Make sure your audience can guess both the holiday theme and the famous work of art! I put christmas lights on the famous painting "a starry night" Some people see sports from different point of views. They can be viewed as just a game you play with people, or a team, or a family even.
I used these antonyms with these photos because the donut looks good and tastes good and the opposite is bad which shows in the salad because healthy food is considered bad tasting compared to junk food. However the antonyms work because the salad is good for you while the donut is bad for you.
The focal point of my selfie project is my family because they are what made me who i am today. The other photos are things that i love and that describe me. Like my soccer team because I love sports and my friends because I love them. There is also pictures of the beach and places I used to go when I was little because those are my favorite things. All these things together I think really represent me as a whole.
